The north-east motorbike loop
Vietnam's best motorbike road, limestone karst landscapes, ethnic minority villages. The region where curation matters most — the road is unforgiving and operators range from licensed and insured to dangerous.
Northern hill country
Misty mountains, terraced rice fields, Hmong and Dao villages. The best trekking is run by women's cooperatives that pay guides directly, not by Hanoi-resold packages.
Central coast, lantern town
Vietnam's best cooking schools, fastest custom tailoring, easy beach access. Also the most aggressively tourist-shaped town in the country — curation separates the real from the staged.
