The Ha Giang loop,
honestly.
The Ha Giang loop is the best motorbike route in South-East Asia. It is also one of the most consistently scammed-on routes for travelers, and one with real fatalities every year.
This page lists every operator worth knowing about — including the ones we recommend against. Direct-book where it makes sense, platform-book where the protection is worth the markup, and skip the ones designed to extract maximum revenue from travelers who haven't done their research.

- Foreign motorbike licenses are not legally valid in Vietnam for bikes over 50cc. Riding without a Vietnamese license voids all travel insurance, including emergency medical evacuation.
- Riding pillion with a licensed Easy Rider is the safer choice — you keep insurance coverage, and they know the road.
- Ma Pi Leng pass kills people every year. Almost always foreign self-riders in fog. Operators that pause the route in bad weather are protecting you, not wasting time.
- The $50 self-ride packages exist for a reason — they are not it.
